Nutriset, a tradition of innovation

Since the company was first created, the quest to find innovative nutritional solutions has been central to Nutriset’s strategy. Every year, it dedicates an average of 10% of its turnover to this priority and the R&D Department accounts for 10% of the company’s total workforce.

In 1993, Nutriset became the first company to make ready-to-dilute therapeutic milks – its F-100 and F-75 milks – destined for the treatment of severe acute malnutrition.

Plumpy'Doz, Nutriset's innovation policy

The Plumpy’nut® revolution

In 1996, Nutriset created Plumpy’nut®, the first ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF). A paste-form equivalent of F-100 milk requiring no preparation, this product simultaneously increased the number of children treated and improved the recovery rate.
Since 2007, RUTFs have been recommended by a joint statement issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF and the World Food Programme (WFP) in the context of the community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM).

From treatment to prevention

Since then, a range of ready-to-use nutritional products has been developed to treat and prevent the different forms of malnutrition (acute or chronic): Supplementary Plumpy®, Plumpy’doz®,Plumpy’Soy®, Nutributter®, Grandibien®, QBMix®.
These products, known as RUSF (Ready-to-Use Supplementary Foods) or LNS (Lipid-based Nutrient Supplements) compensate for macro- and micronutrient deficiencies in the traditional diets of beneficiaries. They are used after the recommended period of exclusive breastfeeding (up to the age of 6 months) in addition to the child’s usual food (breast milk and diversified diet).

Fighting acute diarrhoea

In 2000, Nutriset joined forces with Laboratoires Pharmaceutiques Rodael to create ZinCfant® for the treatment of acute diarrhoea, the second biggest cause of mortality in children under the age of five. Used in combination with oral rehydration salts (ORS), these dispersible zinc sulphate tablets reduce the duration and severity of episodes of diarrhoea and have a preventive action for up to three months after the end of treatment.
Since 2004, their use has been recommended by WHO and UNICEF, and they were included in WHO’s list of essential medicines in 2005.

Every day, Nutriset continues to develop the nutritional solutions of tomorrow.
