Edesia was established in 2009 as a nonprofit joint initiative between Industrial Revelation and Nutriset. Edesia’s mandates are to:

  • produce Plumpy line nutritional products
  • collaborate on nutrition research studies and develop new nutritional products
  • support local producers of ready-to-use food (RUF) products in the developing world.

Operating as a nonprofit in the United States facilitates awareness building and fundraising to support the fight against malnutrition. It allows for closer collaboration with U.S.-based nutrition research institutions and NGOs, as well as active advocacy within the U.S. government to add more nutrient-dense commodities to its food aid. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, the facility is currently under renovation and should be fully operational by the beginning of 2010.

Message from the manager

« With malnutrition increasing to the highest levels in four decades, the creation of Edesia comes at the right time. Our small, but energetic and dedicated, team is working hard to put all the pieces in place to be operational this coming January. We are excited by the challenges ahead of us: the improvement of the quality of food aid our government can provide, partnerships with new NGOs, and an opportunity to truly make our mark on reducing malnutrition around the world from preventative measures to the severest of cases. »
