Moderate acute malnutrition
According to UNICEF, 68 million children, throughout the developing world, are underweight for their size. If the case of severe emaciation is excluded, the number of children suffering from moderate acute malnutrition is 42 million. These children are vulnerable to illness, have an increased risk of death and can rapidly tip over into severe acute malnutrition, at which stage the danger of death is even further increased.
