History and values

Created in 1986, Nutriset has since remained true to its initial commitment: to invent, produce and make accessible solutions for the treatment and prevention of malnutrition.

At the time, no specific product existed for the management of severe acute malnutrition. Food aid, based on agricultural surpluses from developed countries, did not meet the nutritional requirements of young children.

Michel Lescanne, a food processing engineer, founded Nutriset with the aim of finding nutritional solutions suitable for children and their living conditions.

This initial ambition led to a series of innovations – F-100, F-75, Plumpy’nut®, Plumpy’doz®, Nutributter®, etc. – which have revolutionised the treatment of malnutrition and made prevention programmes possible.

In almost 25 years, Nutriset has firmly established itself as the world leader in its field. A benchmark player in the battle against malnutrition, the company is recognised for its ability to innovate, its mastery of high-quality production, and its commitment to making products accessible.

Responsibility: central to the Nutriset approach

The original vision of responsibility held by Nutriset goes well beyond the mandate of combating malnutrition that it set itself.

  • Economic responsibility: securing the long-term future of the company in order to fulfil its mission to help children and safeguard its employees’ jobs.
Nutriset is still managed by its founder and is an exclusively family-owned business. Through its financial independence and freedom of governance, Nutriset is able to respect an ethical principle: reinvestment of the bulk of its net profits to support the fulfilment of its mandate.
  • Social responsibility: aspiring to a fairer world and allowing everyone to participate in change. In fact, Nutriset’s social responsibility credentials are reflected from the outset in its mandate – a company committed to fighting malnutrition. Another aspect that sets Nutriset apart is its beneficial social management policy (salary policy, social benefits) and participative approach (regular discussion meetings, “Club of 8” bringing together representatives from every core business, etc.).
  • Developmental responsibility: adopting a bold approach to foster the innovative development of its operations. In addition to innovating in terms of products and distribution strategies, Nutriset has created and leads 2 local producer networks, PlumpyField and ZincField, to enable developing countries to meet the needs of their own populations.
